The disability benefits are offered in order to protect the member from the risk that they will no longer be able to earn an income and will have to leave the fund.

As per the Fund rules, a member will be classified as totally and permanently disabled if trustees receive notification from his or her employer and satisfactory medical evidence that a member has become totally and permanently incapable of engaging in own normal occupation.

This includes any other occupation for which, in the trustees’ opinion, the member could be reasonably considered capable of engaging by virtue of his or her training and general experience for remuneration or profit. This is provided that the member shall within a period of three months after the date of disablement, procure proper medical attention and carries out and follows in full the medical instructions and advice given.
